In this day and age everyone knows who Amazon.com is and that it's a great place to get exceptional deals. What is not so know is that they offer positions that lead to real, legitimate work at home opportunities. You can't really ask for a more reliable company either--Amazon.com has been in business since the site went live in 1995. So, the wonderful Jeff Bezos has managed to create a valuable work at home job for many people with his well-known company.

How Amazon Positions Work:

Just like any steady work with a company, you must apply, proceed with an interview, get hired on, and complete the training course. The application is filled out online, the interview may be in person or through the telephone, and training must be completed on-site. Training typically ranges from 2 - 6 weeks, depending on the position and time of year (holiday hire-es can expect to have a shorter training course).

There are main sectors of this work, such as Technical Account Management or Customer Service Representation. A TAM associate works with third-party sellers, while CS representatives offer assistance to Amazon.com customers.

In general, the job consists of a 40-hour work-week, with set schedules that are offered. They also offer week-end positions, and the Customer Service sector may allow for overnight positions in some locations.

After training has been completed associates are provided a stable work-from-home computer.

What the Pay is Like:

Pay, again, is dependent on the type of position you are hired on to manage. For example, a CS representative may earn $10-$12 per hour as a starting base, while a TAM associate may earn $12-$13 for beginning wages. As always, these numbers may fluctuate, especially during the peak seasons for Amazon.com shoppers. It's best to inquire about the hourly wages during your interview.


Wait...What's the Catch?:

There are three main "catches" to the positions that Amazon offers. One is that the training must be completed on-site, and there are only a few sites available, such as Grand Forks, North Dakota, Huntington, West Virginia, and Manila, Philippines.
The second catch is that, with holiday shopping quickly approaching, employees may be requested to accept some overtime hours. This has not been fully determined; however, it may be a possibility to inquire about during the interview process.
The final issue is that some locations do not permit the employee from becoming a work from home associate. For example, North Dakotan residents may transition to the work at home position as long as they remain within North Dakota; however, Minnesota residents must reside in North Dakota or another permitted state to transition to a home environment. Please inquire about your location during the interview process.

Today I attended a webinar (online web seminar) about a company called Seeing Angels Two by Two. I have a few things to point out, suggest, and discuss about this company. It sounds like a great offer. The whole deal with Seeing Angels Two by Two is that they help you get hired with an online work at home company called Arise, which, in turn, assists a wide variety of other companies (inbound selling, outbound calls, chat lines, etc.) in finding great employees. If that doesn't make sense then it's sort of like:

SA2B2 --> Arise -> Many employers > WORK!

How Seeing Angels Two by Two Works:

It's very simple to get some assistance through the SA2B2 company. A quick email with you basic information and declaration of interest will begin a process. They will send you links, help you when you're stuck, guide you through the Arise material, and even can help reduce costs* on getting hired with Arise. Once you've gone through the SA2B2 hoops then you're pretty much in to be hired by a company that goes through Arise--well, after a quick background check that will cost you only $10.

What the Pay is Like:

Pay varies by which company you choose to apply for through Arise. The average pay wage is well above minimum wage and you can expect to earn pretty decent money in you first year of work from these virtual call centers and otherwise. Some companies pay in the teens of dollars while others will pay $9 or so. It varies, is all, and you can easily inquire about each position and the usual pay rates before going through the whole process.

Wait...What's the Catch?

The catch is something that needs to be said right away and very clearly. Seeing Angels Two by Two had a great webinar tonight; however, there were some red flags that make me, personally, uneasy about this opportunity. I will list them out so that you can decide for yourself about this possible home income opportunity:

1. There was a lot of errors on the pages presented during the meeting. Maybe I'm just being picky but some of the lines were absolutely hilarious or just didn't make any sense. I actually took some screen captures of this mess so that I could have a good giggle later about my work at home adventures. I'm talking, horrible spelling, grammar, and punctuation meets Chinglish. There were spaces where spaces didn't belong. Commas were periods should go. Heck, there was even one sentence jumble so clue no suppose that was people (or, rather: that was so jumbled you had no clue what it was suppose to say). My thinking is this: If you can't spend enough time proofreading the material you're about to present me with then why would I expect to be treated professionally by you?

2. I'm not entirely sure how Seeing Angels Two by Two get paid. They mentioned a referral bonus for signing up people under you once you get hired on by Arise. I take this as meaning that SA2B2 also get paid to refer you. Now, it's possible that they're just in it for the referral money. They refer a thousand people and they're sure to get paid some when a few hundred sign-up, if you get what I'm saying. I can't say that's how it works, but it sure seems like it from this angle.

*3. Someone mentioned the decreased cost in going through Seeing Angels Two by Two instead of directly through Arise. At first it sounded like you got a great cost relief from this company, but, later, it sounded like you didn't get any extra-special cost reductions or benefits other than some helpful advice when filling out online forms for Arise. This leads me to think that maybe they're giving answers to people who are filling out assessments on the Arise site so that a person can get hired and they will get a referral fee. I have no idea.

There is also the fact that you are an independent contractor and not an actual employee. This is perfectly fine for most people. I have no problem with this. I'm just kind of confused why I need to be referred to be referred to a legitimate company then, right? I mean, SA2B2 will refer me to Arise who will, then, refer me to a reputable company for employment. I guess if it works then it works. For note, this opportunity is not available to Filipinos to anyone currently residing in the Philippines.

Note: I am not saying Seeing Angels Two by Two is a scam by any means. I am only saying I'm not sure if it's really beneficial to go through this company to get hired by Arise.

UPDATE: No sooner than I type this out and upload it does the site change it's format. Now you must purchase a month $10 membership subscription to the forum to be allowed cashout payments. Fortunately, you can cash-out multiple times a week, get referral bonuses, and much more. All of this will change over on November 1, 2010 so until then you can cash out for $10 at the end of the week with a free membership. This is where this work at home-er draws the line though. I won't be purchasing the paid membership at this time at all, but am very glad to have earned the $10 in my PayPal account last week!
If you choose not to purchase a membership you can still accumulate points for when you do choose to buy.

What the Pay is Like:

It's simple. Just under 50 points earns you $10 directly to your verified PayPal account. You earn 3 points per each forum addition you make (ie: post, reply, thread, comment, etc.). That's it. Just request payment through the handy link at the top of the screen and you're off.

Wait...I Can Only Cash Out Once a Week?:

With a free membership you can only earn $10 a week through the basic forum postings. If you dish out your own $10 a month to TDD then you can earn more than $10 a week and get added benefits. Sometimes you have to pay a little to get a little, obviously. Fortunately, it took me less than 1 full day to reach minimum payout last week.

ChaCha is one of those sites that you might be unsure of in regards to signing up for first. I went back and fourth for a couple of months about giving them my personal information (social security number) in fear that they wouldn't keep things as confidential as I'd like. I gave it a shot recently though. I decided it was now or never, especially since I've had a family member in the hospital and now have a few thousands of dollars in medical expenses to tend to. That's alright though! ChaCha was here for me.

How ChaCha Works:

People text in a short question for ChaCha guides. Sometimes they want to know how to tie shoes or a quick homework question. Sometimes they're nothing but perverted little 14 year olds trying to get a rise out of ChaCha. Any way it is, ChaCha hires you to answer these questions. The catch here is that you don't actually type anything most of the time. All of the answers, for the most part, are already uploaded in the private database. Just read, click, and go! It helps because the answers are correct and the texter gets a speedy response in less than a minute, most of the time.
There is no limit to how many questions you choose to answer, but you will notice times the site is very slow at dishing out questions. It's user-based though so you just have to wait for them. If you get a question that you simply cannot find an answer to at all then you rewrite and reword the question and pass it along to the next level of answerers who will do some quick research.

What the Pay is Like

ChaCha pays per question you answer. Most of them are only a few cents. It really depends on what special bonus going on for that day or week. Different levels of ChaCha guides will earn more or less, depending on what their job consists of during their time spent on the site. Time really flies by though. I did over 400 questions last night in no time.

Wait...What's the Catch?

Unfortunately ChaCha has been dropping wages for awhile now. They also have a cash out minimum of $150 before it can be direct deposited into you bank account. They only pay direct deposit or through a debit card you sign-up for through ChaCha. You are also not considered to be an employee so you are held responsible for taxes at the end of the year.

I'm not much for survey sites, really. I have no patience to sit down and spill my shopping history to some faceless examiner just so they know if I buy a lot of dryer sheets or not during the month. PineCone Research didn't catch my eye at first until I started reading some reviews about their history, payments, and reliability to keep your information fairly confidential. To top it off, I even read that the surveys weren't too intrusive and were fairly quick and simple to fill out. Interesting, I thought.

How Pinecone Research Works:

The deal with the site is that it isn't always allowing sign-ups. It can be pretty tricky to sign-up for because they only promote their ads onto certain, unidentified sites on a random basis. This is to cut down on people signing up who have no real interest in completing the surveys. That way they know most of their users are probably active and actually do want to fill out a survey for a few bucks.
So, after you actually get to sign-up on their basic who-are-you form (name, address, number of members in the household, etc.) you simply wait. There aren't surveys to do every day or even every month sometimes. They will email you when they have a survey that fits your location and basic data you previously supplied to them. From there you simply follow the email link they provided, fill out the survey as requested, and ta-da you're finished.

What the Pay is Like:

Payments from Pinecone Research are great, as I just recently found out after finishing my very first survey online. They haven't given me the option to get credited through PayPal (which I would totally prefer because my bank isn't local) but about a week after I completed their survey about a basic shopping trip I received a nice $3 check payment. That was it. I didn't have to jump through hoops for it. From what I am aware, the $3 payment is usual for this type of survey so I'm thinking $3 for a whopping 15 minutes of my time isn't bad at all. That's, like, $12 an hour if this sort-of thing was steady!

Wait...Sign-Up Isn't Open and Surveys Aren't Steady?

Yes and no. Some locations will have sign-ups more frequently based on their clients' needs. I live in the U.S. Midwest and was able to sign-up right away when I found a link. You, unfortunately, may have to wait months before finding a link to sign-up with this research panel with. No fear, you can simply make a Google Alerts for "Pinecone Research" and somebody, somewhere will probably let the news out when it's hiring again.
The surveys, again, are only available to a select few at a time. Some months you might get 5 or more surveys. Some months you might not get a survey to complete at all. From what I've been told, you have better luck if you have a larger family and/or if you're a male applying for the panel.

Ok, I know what I just said about having to hunt down a link to sign up for PineCone Research but I was lucky enough to find functioning links. There really are no fees to use oDesk aside from a a $1 transaction cost. The other "issue" is that there are no promises that you will be hired. Some oDesk users will never get a job using the system. Others may go through hundreds.

What the Pay is Like:

Payment is fairly simple. ToneADay offers only $.02 USD per word you rate. Within the 100 words you test for you will earn $2.00 though. Fiverr came on the market some months ago and many consumers were wary of it. This site claims to allow you to work on small tasks for only $5 each. It doesn't sound like a lot but when you get to looking through some of the available tasks you may find yourself engulfed into becoming a seller or buyer on Fiverr yourself.

How Fiverr Works:

A free account can be set-up in just minutes. You simply then type whatever you're willing to do for $5. Some people will draw cartoon characters, some will voice-over, and others may even become your virtual secretary or aid for an small amount of time. Whatever it is, you simply write it into the supplied boxes and hit "submit" in the end. You're ready to go and millions of people will see your offer and will request the "gig" of you when it appears to suit their needs. There really isn't much more to it. You can take on as many tasks or as few as you'd like. You can work for as little as 5 minutes on something. There seems to be a buyer and seller for everything you could imagine though so keep your eyes peeled for competition on the Fiverr market. Personally, I will transcribe 15 minutes of audio for $5 on Fiverr and have done quite well with it.

What the Pay is Like:

Fiverr will pay you directly through the PayPal site. The catch is that Fiverr keeps $1 profit to cover the costs of PayPal fees, website costs, and server maintenance. This being said, you're technically only paid $4 per gig you choose. It's still $4 though and if you find your niche at it then you're all set. There are no other side fees or hidden costs to buy or sell on the Fiverr site. Once Fiverr receive payment for a gig you can insert the funds directly into your PayPal account within 14 days.

Wait...14 Days?

The 14 day limit is only so that they can ensure your customer's satisfaction and that you didn't just try to pass off Mickey Mouse as your own creation. The money is completely yours though and even if you only have $4 in your Fiverr account you will then be able to transfer it over to PayPal. The system is just set-up that way to protect you, the seller, and the buyer.

Sign-up and Join Fiverr:

There really is no reason to join Fiverr, especially since it's entirely free to post or browse. It's much like eBay in the sense that there is something for everyone as reasonable prices. Give it a shot and look through the site before filling out the account creation to get an idea of some things you might be willing to do for a small fee. The money adds up fast and you'll soon get sucked into the Fiverr world though. It is probably the funnest "work at home job" available right now. Fiverr is really a great opportunity for all work at home moms and work at home dads.

Work at Home with ClickWorker

Clickworker is a fairly new job on the internet market but is worth the sign-up. They offer jobs from all around the world, especially in Russia and India, and have reasonable payouts for completed tasks. The idea behind Clickworker is that an available online job can reach thousands, if not millions, of people around the world and supply them with a steady income for regular tasks that are needed to be done online. Clickworker has already signed large contracts with companies who wish to use their services. From where it stands now, it looks like it's on it's way to success.

How Clickworker Works:

Clickworker hires you from the moment you finish your account set-up. You supply them with basic information about yourself, such as location and fluent languages, and then move on to some basic testing. There are tests for a variety of current tasks that need to be completed so the sooner you complete the tests the sooner you can get started with work assigned to you.
From there you do as you normally would for any job. You log in once a day, accept an assignment, and complete it in the time given. Assignments vary and may include translations, surveys, or creative writing tasks. My recent assignment was as follows:

"Write ### of words about this particular topic. Include these particular ideas. Here are some specific suggestions. You have 5 hours to get this work completed." Altered, of course, to only give you an idea of what is requested.

From there, I typed my ### amount of words on the certain subject and submitted it. It took me about an hour and I received great compensation for my work. My creative writing earned me a whopping $10 USD (now increased to $13 USD) for one hour of a task that was so easy my cat could have done it.
Since the task given has a large allotted amount of time you can rest assured that having a cup of coffee, taking a walk outside for a few minutes for fresh air, or having a small phone conversation mid-work isn't going to cause you to lose your income. You can literally do this anywhere, at any time. Anyway, once you finish your writing you simply hit "submit" and your account balance increases within the next couple of hours.

What the Pay is Like:

Payment is only given after your account reaches $10 or greater. Many tasks will help you to earn that much money in less than an hour of steady work though, in my experience. I cannot say how much other countries are paid out for their time and investment but I'd assume it's about the same figure. All in all, if you're a good creative writer and a decently fast typist then you have a good job just waiting for you at Clickworker. I have only completed one task so far and waiting to see how payment through PayPal will actually go so I will make sure to update this as soon as my payment is received in full. The company seems very reliable and honest though so I have very little doubt that they will "skip town" with my "dough."

Xomba is a great website for those of you who are into creativity in writing. If you are a talented writer then you absolutely should not pass up the opportunity to write for the Xomba website. It's far from rip-off or a scam.

How Xomba Works:

On Xomba you simply create a personal account using your own choice of username. Your username is sort-of your pen name on the site so make sure you don't forget it. From there you, now referred to as a Xombie, will simply write until your heart's content. As long as the topic is family-friendly and is original, meaning not previously uploaded to another website, then Xomba will allow anything you choose to discuss, including your own website or product. Xomba sends out the link to your unique content after you submit it so that multiple search engines know there is new content available on the site. In many cases I, personally, have ranked on the first page of Google search in less than 10 minutes.
Make sure to sign up with Google Adsense when you create your Xomba account so that you can attach your personalized code to your Xomba material. (See the Xomba site for more details on how to set this up.)
Also note that Xomba is a great way to drive more traffic to your site by creating backlinks. People stumbling across Xomba might happen to see your work and following various links you supply within the writing. Take this opportunity to drive people to your site, product, e-book, or whatever you feel is helpful.
Xomba is so helpful that you can actually contact the sign owners and administrators through various links on the Xomba website, sending them personal email questions or comments at any time of the day. They really respond because they care about their users.


What the Pay is Like:

Xomba allows you to use their website for your own material by attaching Google Adsense ads to your work. Half of the time Xomba will provide the coding for your personalized Adsense account so that you can generate money when viewers click your ad. The other half of the time Xomba will show their own personalized Adsense code so that they profit as well. It's a great "fee" if you consider how much it takes to create and maintain a website of this proportion. It's already has a PageRank of 4 so it's been around for awhile.
All profits earned will be through your Google Adsense account.
Your personalized, unique content submitted to the Xomba site will remain there forever and always generate income from clickthroughs on the various ads. That's basically generating income without doing anything after you've gained frequent readers or have made it to the front page of Google search a few times.

Wait...Adsense?:

Google Adsense is a great way to earn some money, especially if you have a lot of traffic being driven to your site. Xomba has an agreement with Google Adsense to allow the ads to be shard 50/50 between users and site. Google Adsense is reliable and you can expect to be paid when you reach the minimum account balance of $100. It really isn't as far away as you'd think either. You earn money, of varying degrees, when a user visiting your page clicks on your ads. That's it. No catches.
